I promise I'll do something personal soon-ish, Lalis!
"Hey :D So it's been kind of a while since I've posted a video, so I kind of wanted to get back to making Youtube videos and musicaddictmusings.
As you all know, Valentine's Day is coming up on Tuesday, so I'm going to be talking about that.
I've recently been hearing from a lot of people that Valentine's Day isn't really a real holiday (yeah, my verbal diction fails)...so, to begin with, what is a real holiday?
Wikipedia defines a holiday as "a day designated as having special significance for which individuals, a government, or a religious group have deemed that observance is warranted." Well, clearly lots of couples and chocolate companies and teddy bear companies and all of that think that observance is definitely warranted on Valentine's Day, but what about the rest of us single or non-chocolate eating and teddy-bear-hating people, what do we think of Valentine's Day? Is it warranted?
The origins of Valentine's Day, the holiday, might be helpful in determining whether or not it's 'warranted'...Valentine's Day commemorates St. Valentine, a martyr (martyr? I'm not quite sure how to pronounce that word...if you don't know what I'm saying, I'll have a link to my blog in the description box so you can look at the word if you're not sure what I'm talking about...) anyway, so he was a martyr in the Roman empire. He wed Christian couples who were being persecuted by the Emperor Claudius. He was executed for that, and February 14, his deathday, became a feast honoring him for wedding the Christian couples, and that became St. Valentine's Day, or Valentine's Day, which we celebrate in the 21st century. (What I meant was that 'St.' was dropped and we don't really honor St. Valentine anymore.)
So, is what St. Valentine did still important to our modern culture, modern times? I think it is, I think that marriage is still an issue because of gay couples. Right now, they're not being allowed to marry - some people think they should be able to, some people think they shouldn't; homophobia is a big issue right now. St. Valentine's Day...the beginning of it is pretty much about that sort of issue, that sort of thing...so I think it is still definitely worth celebrating, and I think we should remember its roots and give meaning to it again; I agree that right now it is sort of a meaningless holiday, but it shouldn't be. It should be a 'real' holiday, something reminding us of love and (*quick change of sentence as I remember it is pretty much love-based xD I fail*) Everyone has the right to marry the person they love - Christian, gay people, anybody.... So yeah, St. Valentine's Day - in my opinion - is still definitely a 'real holiday', or it should be at least........It is a real holiday :P But it should be given much more meaning, it should be more important, it should be given more political importance - having to do with gay rights and all of that.
So that's my opinion, what do you think? Do you think it's a real holiday? Do you think that gays should be allowed to marry? Is there something about St. Valentine that I left out that is important? Comment below, comment on what the song of the week you think is (such lovely grammar I have). It's St. Valentine's Day themed, of course, so that's a bit of a hint, if that helps you at all.
So yeah, like the video, comment, do whatever...hopefully I'll - I'll try to put up more videos soon, and also...is your name Rolinor on Youtube? It's Cody on Goodreads...you posted that I should talk about SOPA. Well, SOPA's over right now...I might discuss it a little bit in my next video, but my next video will try and focus on ACTA. I was going to make my next video (this one, that is) about ACTA and SOPA, but St. Valentine's Day came up, but I'll talk about that next week, I haven't forgotten or anything. Definitely make more suggestions, if you want...so yeah, cool, bye. Hope to see you next week (or have you see me :P), I'll try and make more videos...bye!
And have an AWESOME St. Valentine's Day. Eat lots of chocolate, hang out with your boyfriend or girlfriend, or hate on Valentine's Day and wear all black (Mimi), do whatever you want - have fun! It's a holiday, so enjoy it! And get a teddy bear, even if you [aren't dating anyone, stupid Rachel, that's the way you say it] just give someone a teddy bear, they're the most adorable things ever ^-^ Get them, they're so cute :) They're so adorable, give someone a teddy bear..."
